Abstract
A major survey (using a comprehensive review tool) was undertaken of over 250 academic staff in an Irish university, which used a range of inventory items and related measures to identify:
- the distribution of approaches to teaching,
- key contextual factors in the selection of methods,
- perceptions of the 'environment' in which their work is situated
- areas of professional interest,
- and alignment with institutional mission
The results from this survey have subsequently fed into strategy and institutional prioritisation processes, indicating the value of coordinating and representing the 'academic voice' in a way which articulates needs and respects diversity of opinion.
